Biography:ETA is a nonbinary, 1st-generation Vietnamese-American filmmaker and educator whose storytelling is deeply rooted in their heritage as the child of refugees from the American War in Vietnam and culturally relevant, trauma-informed teaching background. Their genre-fluid work includes the gentrification horror short, “White Gaze”, which has played in film festivals around the world, winning FICIMAD’s Best Horror Film, Film Invasion LA’s Grand Jury Award, and Best Director at Arthouse Film Festival and New York Odyssey Film Festival, among others. Their documentary short, “Confluence: A Meditation in Documentary Form”, which explores diasporic identity through the lens of queer API and Desi American musical artists, has screened in Academy and BAFTA-qualifying film festivals internationally, was specially exhibited at Busan International Short Film Festival, and was nominated for The Artists Forum of the Moving Image’s Best Documentary Short and NFMLA’s Best Short Film Documentary, among others.
